CustomFit

About the Project

CustomFit helps users obtain realistic health goals through a guided execution of customized workout and meal plans. It’s targeted toward people who are living a health-conscious life, but either need that extra push or want to take their health to the next level.

Users enter their nutritional and fitness goals, then based on their likes, dislikes, dietary restrictions, and exercise preferences, they receive a daily step-by-step plan to follow along with relevant scientific information, articles, and book suggestions. With the app, they’ll also be able to integrate external health tools that would measure and give accurate metabolic readings such as BMI, BMR, TDEE, Target Heart Rate, and Body Fat Percentage so they can monitor their progress and actually achieve their goals.

My Role

CustomFit was conceived and developed while taking the UXD course at General Assembly. It was 100% my idea and was my first stab at exploring all the phases of user experience design.

The Competition

I first set out to uncover other apps with the same or similar idea. What I found were a lot of apps that focused either on fitness or nutrition, but not many that did a good job at combining both. Among those that did, there was not a lot of content users could view for free, without having to pay a monthly subscription.

The Archetypes

THE HEALTH NUT

Works out at least 5 times a week. Trying to lose some body fat. Very health-conscious eater, but a healthy appetite is getting in the way of aesthetic goals.

THE MEATHEAD

Works out every day.
Trying to build more muscle.
Follows a strict diet.

THE GUIDANCE SEEKER

Works out a few times a week. Comfortable in the gym, but not confident. Trying to get healthier. Eats any and everything.

User Flow & Sitemap

One of the challenges for me was how to include all the features I wanted (there was a lot) and still have CustomFit function as I had initially envisioned. After many iterations of how the user would move through CustomFit, I was able to learn from each, break it down and develop a flow that both included the minimum viable product (MVP) and still have my key feature set included.

Wireframes

Similar to developing the user flow, learning and simplifying each iteration of CustomFit played a key role in creating the final wireframes and in turn lead to a seamless prototype.
